Delegates in consultation

On Wednesday morning, the Chemical Review Committee (CRC) convened in plenary to consider a draft decision and the revised draft decision guidance document (DGD) for perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), its salts and PFOA-related compounds.

Timo Seppälä (Finland) reported from Tuesday’s deliberations on PFOA, particularly highlighting discussions on which chemicals should be included in the decision. The Committee adopted the revised draft DGD for PFOA with no further amendments, but views diverged on how to reflect the scope of PFOA-related compounds included in the recommendation for listing in the Rotterdam Convention. A drafting group, comprised of members only, will discuss this issue further on Thursday.

Delegates spent the remainder of the day in contact groups to discuss the notifications of final regulatory actions on decabromodiphyl ether (decaBDE), amitrole, and nonylphenols and nonylphenol ethoxylates (NP and NPEs). Each group is expected to forward draft decisions for the Committee’s consideration on Thursday.

A side event convened to help inform CRC participants on how to use the FAO Pesticide Registration Tool Kit to support risk evaluations. Delegates will gather in plenary on Thursday morning with the aim of adopting decisions on all the remaining agenda items.

IISD Reporting Services, through its Earth Negotiations Bulletin (ENB) meeting coverage, has provided daily web updates and a summary and analysis report from CRC-15. The summary and analysis is now available in HTML and PDF.
