Summary
On Thursday, participants attended the second and last day of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Working Group.
In the morning, the meeting opened with a keynote from Eduardo Bitran, Executive Vice-President of the Corporación de Fomento de la Producción (CORFO), Chile, who underscored his country’s strategy for moving towards a more sustainable economy. The working group heard presentations from the Lead Partners on proposals for funding from the following initiatives: bricks; diesel; household energy; waste; finance; health; SNAP; oil and gas; and agriculture. CCAC Partners adopted the proposals as presented. Breakout groups on selected initiatives and other priority topics extended into the afternoon. Break-out group topics included finance, SNAP, institutional strengthening, NDCs, health, cities and subnational, and household energy.
In the afternoon, the Working Group took stock of Partners’ progress in following up on previous High Level Assembly (HLA) commitments. The group also discussed and agreed on the focus of the 2017 HLA, including waste and agriculture. Partners agreed on holding the 2017 HLA meeting in Bonn in conjunction with UNFCCC COP 23. Partners also agreed on launching a Climate and Clean Air Award.
In the closing session, the CCAC Partners elected Alice Akinya Kaudia, Kenya, as Co-Chair to replace Chile, as well as the new Steering Committee.
