Summary

This event convened on 13 November 2017, in Bonn, Germany, on the sidelines of the 23rd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 23) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It was organized by the NAMA Facility, the Governments of Germany, UK and Denmark, and the European Commission. The aim of the event was to demonstrate the joint commitment of developing countries and donors to continued financing and implementation of ambitious and transformational Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs) to support the Paris Agreement. During the event, Germany and the UK announced contributions of €30 million and £40 million respectively to the Facility for the fifth call for proposals.

Rita Schwarzelühr-Sutter, Parliamentary Secretary of State, BMUB, Germany, announced a contribution of €30 million from Germany to the Facility for the fifth call for proposals.

Roberto Ridofi, European Commission, called for creating jobs using innovative financing instruments and schemes.

Peter Betts, UK, announced that the UK would contribute £40 million towards the fifth call for proposals.

Asger Garnak, Denmark, expressed confidence that the NAMA Facility would remain relevant with the challenge being to define projects that could be supported.

Jorge León Wolpert Kuri, Mexico, noted that the housing NAMA in Mexico has surpassed its objectives.
