The Oceans Action Day at COP 24 will bring together Parties in the UNFCCC negotiations, high-level representatives from governments, intergovernmental/international organizations, academic institutions, and civil society to advance the oceans and climate change agenda and to showcase oceans and climate action at COP 24 and beyond. Major topics to be addressed include:
- Central role of oceans and climate and associated science and issues;
- Mitigation related to oceans and coastal zones;
- Adaptation;
- the Blue Economy;
- Displacement;
- the Ocean Content of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs);
- Ocean Finance; and
- Capacity Development.
The main organizers of Oceans Action Day at COP 24 are the Global Ocean Forum; Roadmap to Oceans and Climate Action; Oceano Azul Foundation, Portugal; Ocean Policy Research Institute, Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan; Ocean Pathway (Governments of Fiji and of Sweden); Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO; Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations; International Union for the Conservation of Nature; Future Ocean Alliance; Ocean and Climate Platform; and Plymouth Marine Laboratory.
