Highlights for Thursday, 11 November 2004

Opening Session

The 22nd session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) met for its final day on Thursday. Delegates discussed IPCC election procedures and adopted a decision on the IPCC programme and budget for 2005-8. Participants also discussed IPCC outreach and, after continued debate, adopted a decision on scope, content and process for a Fourth Assessment Report (AR4) Synthesis Report. Contact groups on outreach, on scope, content and process for an AR4 Synthesis Report and on the IPCC programme and budget also met. The meeting ended at 6:26 PM.

The ENB summary report of IPCC-22 will be available here on Saturday, 13 November.

Regarding scenarios on climate change impacts, Bernard Gomez (The Gambia) takes issue with the use of "near and long term," saying it could lead to confusion for policy makers.

IPCC Vice-Chair Yuri A. Izrael (Russia) urges the use of the word "stabilization" in the outline for the Synthesis Report.
Trigg Talley (United States)
Trigg Talley (United States) intervenes regarding the content of the Synthesis Report.
