The 46th sessions of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 46) and Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 46), as well as the third part of the first session of the Ad Hoc Working Group on the Paris Agreement (APA 1-3) will take place from 8 - 18 May 2017, in Bonn, Germany. Side events provide a platform for admitted observer organizations, which have limited speaking opportunities at the formal negotiations, to engage with Parties and other participants for knowledge sharing, capacity building, networking and exploring actionable options for meeting the climate challenge. Most side events present an opportunity for debates on key issues, often engaging the audience in a question-and-answer session. As introduced after the adoption of the Paris Agreement, the official side events will be organized under the theme ‘Accelerating implementation of the Paris Agreement,’ in three categories: ‘Enhancing ambition’ will focus on issues that will help increase ambition prior to 2020; ‘Promoting implementation’ will showcase climate change actions, global stocktaking and methodologies; and ‘Providing support to developing countries’ will consider means of implementation, replicable tools and approaches. |
