Highlights from Sunday, 16 March

During the opening ceremony, delegates to the 3rd World Water Forum heard addresses from Ryutaro Hashimoto, Chairman, National Steering Committee of the 3rd World Water Forum, His Imperial Highness the Crown Prince of Japan Naruhito, Mahmoud Abu-Zeid, President, World Water Council, Prince Moulay Rachid, Morocco, and His Royal Highness the Prince of Orange of the Netherlands Willem Alexander.

Thematic sessions today included Water and Climate; Water Supply, Sanitation, Hygiene and Water Pollution; and Water and Cultural Diversity. Following Opening Plenary sessions for these themes, various break out sessions convened throughout the afternoon and evening. Sessions also met to discuss Actions through Partnership and World Water Actions

The Forum heard a videotaped message from French President Jaques Chirac
Award Ceremony of the King Hassan II Great World Water Prize: This international award was established jointly by the Government of Morocco and the World Water Council, in memory of His majesty King Hassan II of Morocco's distinguished leadership and encouragement and sound management of water resources.
