Fourth International Conference on Community-Based Adaptation to Climate Change

Highlights for Saturday, 27 February 2010

On Saturday, 27 February, participants convened for a final day at the Fourth International Conference on CBA to Climate Change.

In the morning, participants met in a plenary session to hear feedback from the work of the conference's informal working group. They then met in a final session to chart the way forward on CBA activities, including the work to further develop the Global Initiative on Community-Based Adaptation.

Plenary Session
Bettina Koelle, Indigo Development and Change, noted that the monitoring and evaluation working group would work with weAdapt on the development of tools for monitoring, evaluation and learning.
Delfin Ganapin, UN Development Programme (UNDP)/ Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme, stressed that civil society involvement is important for the proper functioning of the Global Initiative on CBA.
Basra Ali, Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI)-Kenya, said that the pastoralism working group would form a regional pastoralist climate-based adaptation network.
Bhathiya Kekulandala, Practical Action-South Asia, said the working group on tools planned to collect information on different tools available for CBA.

Closing of the Conference
Tim Clarke, EU, underlined the EU’s support for climate change initiatives.
Euster Kibona, Tanzania’s Environmental Protection and Management Services, thanked participants for a fruitful session.
Richard Muyungi, Acting Director of Environment, Tanzania, stressed his government's continued support and collaboration.
Saleemul Huq, IIED, called the meeting to a close at 12:12pm.
