The International Ecoagriculture
Conference and Practitioners' Fair convened from 27 September to 1
October 2004 at the World Agroforestry Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. The
meeting brought together over 200 of the world's leading innovators in
ecoagriculture, representing diverse sectors including: community
leaders, farmers, conservationists, policymakers, researchers, technical
advisors, land-use planners, and the private sector. The purpose of the
Conference was to assess the state of ecoagriculture systems and
practices, and to develop a strategy to promote and support
ecoagricultural development around the world. The Conference was
organized by Ecoagriculture Partners.
During the Conference, participants reviewed
diverse examples of practices along with evidence of the social,
cultural, economic, environmental, institutional, technical, geographic
and political characteristics of successful ecoagriculture initiatives.
Participants shared experiences, gained knowledge, built new
partnerships, broadened awareness of the potentials of ecoagriculture,
and elaborated a number of specific recommendations for action to
further the concepts and tools needed to implement ecoagriculture.
