RECRUITING NEW DIGITAL EDITOR

The International Institute for Sustainable Development - Reporting Services Division (IISD RS) will be adding a Digital Editor to the team of freelance consultants who write and edit the Earth Negotiations Bulletin, Your Meeting Bulletin and ENB on the Side (the “ENB Team”).

Please note that this is not a full-time position and applicants should only apply if interested in part-time consulting work. All applicants should have either other freelance work or academic scholarships/fellowships to complement their salaries from working with IISD Reporting Services.

IISD is an international organization. Qualified applicants from all countries, especially developing countries, are encouraged. Because of the large number of applicants expected, only those who meet all the requirements/minimum qualifications will be considered.

The deadline for applications is 1800 GMT on Wednesday, 28 September 2005. Only those candidates who will interviewed will be contacted.

General Requirements

Work on the Earth Negotiations Bulletin and other publications requires long hours, often working in small offices with other members of the team. All applicants should be able to work well in small group situations, handle stress and show the highest respect for co-workers even in the most trying or stressful moments.

Digital Editors are paid an honorarium that varies by experience on ENB teams from US$1000 to US$1500 per week. IISD pays all business and travel expenses while attending meetings. Most consultants work at from three to six meetings per year, working from five to fourteen days per meeting.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIGITAL EDITOR POSITION

All applicants should:

  1. have a minimum of five years’ experience in the computer industry working on html-based web pages and websites, or a Masters degree in computer science;

  2. be able to set up internet (usually wireless) connections at offices around the world, sometimes under difficult conditions;

  3. have the necessary skills to assist other team members with any technological/computer difficulties that may arise;

  4. have experience or be familiar with desktop publishing programmes, specifically Adobe� InDesign�;

  5. have experience in taking high-quality digital photos and posting photos on web pages;

  6. have strong English-writing and oral communications skills;

  7. have an interest in or knowledge of environmental issues, sustainable development, and/or multilateral negotiations;

  8. work well in small groups and have the flexibility to travel to international meetings for periods of up to three weeks at a time;

  9. own a high-quality digital SLR camera with zoom lens; and

  10. own a laptop computer running Windows XP.
