High-level discussions on governance and financing solutions for global environmental action will touch on the ninth replenishment cycle of the GEF (GEF-9), including its strategic priorities and programming directions.

Delegates met to prepare a set of draft decisions and documents to pave the way for the smooth operationalization of the Agreement. While they reached agreement on many issues, there were disagreements on the rules of procedure, the subsidiary bodies, and the financial rules and regulations.

Amid unprecedented biodiversity loss, climate change, and challenges to multilateralism, Parties demonstrated the benefits of international cooperation, which has improved the conservation status of migratory species, including the saiga antelope, scimitar-horned oryx, and Mediterranean monk seal.

With the adoption of the Global Biodiversity Framework in 2022, Parties took a step towards putting nature on a path to recovery. Now the focus is on implementation and actions to bridge data gaps, build scientific and technological capacities, and mobilize financial resources.
