Summary

After observing a minute of silence for the passing of King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the forty-fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC-44) convened on Monday in Bangkok, Thailand. In the morning, the IPCC-44 heard opening statements and discussed the IPCC Work Programme and Budget and admission of observers. It also heard a report on the communications of products from the sixth assessment report (AR6).

During lunch, participants attended a special information session on the scoping of the special report on the impacts of global warming of 1.5°C above preindustrial levels and related global greenhouse gas emission pathways in the context of strengthening the global response to the threat of climate change, sustainable development and efforts to eradicate poverty.

Following the special information session, the IPCC-44 took up the outline of that report. Also in the afternoon, the IPCC heard reports on the status of the establishment of the Technical Support Units and on the participation of developing countries in IPCC activities.

IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB Meeting Coverage, is providing digital coverage and a summary and analysis report from IPCC-44 that is available in HTML and PDF.
