The 32-member Council will consider a new work program under the GEF’s eighth replenishment cycle (GEF-8) totaling USD 564.3 million, which is expected to generate USD 4.15 billion in co-financing for projects benefitting people and the planet.

Delegates will discuss the roadmap for renegotiating the 2006 iteration of the International Tropical Timber Agreement—the only global agreement focused on tropical forests.

Convening in Riyadh, delegates will undertake a midterm evaluation of the UNCCD 2018−2030 Strategic Framework, adopt the UNCCD’s biennial budget, and negotiate decisions around the sustainable use of land.

After tense talks, parties agreed on a new climate finance goal.
