IISD Reporting Services - UNCCD

On Wednesday morning, delegates continued their discussion of implementation experiences in land degradation neutrality (LDN) target setting at country level. Among other issues, they highlighted opportunities created through this process to improve the implementation of the Convention, generate political leadership and build technical competence for collecting baseline data and monitoring progress, and enhancing joint learning, capacity building, partnerships and financial support.

Delegates then began consideration of the agenda item on future implementation of the Convention, based on a report prepared by the Intergovernmental Working Group on the future strategic framework of the Convention (IWG-FSF). Presenting the Group’s initial findings, Stephen Muwaya, IWG-FSF Co-Chair, noted its mandate was to assess the current 10-year strategic plan and framework to enhance the implementation of the Convention (2008–2018) and consider options for a follow-up strategy for discussion at the next session of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the UNCCD in 2017.

In the afternoon, delegates exchanged views on the proposed overall future reporting procedures and modalities, including possible changes to the mandate and functions of the CRIC. This was followed by an exchange of views on opportunities for increased financing for the implementation of the Convention that also highlighted various options to track finance in the context of future UNCCD reporting.

In the evening the CRIC contact group continued informal consultations on the future implementation of the Convention and the CRIC 15 outcome report.

IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB Meeting Coverage, has provided daily web updates from UNCCD CRIC 15. In addition, IISD Reporting Services has published a summary and analysis report from the meeting which is available in HTML and PDF.
