The Mountain Partnership is a UN voluntary alliance of partners dedicated to improving the lives of mountain people and protecting mountain environments around the world. The fifth Global Meeting will be held at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) headquarters in Rome on 11-13 December 2017. Under the theme “Mountains under pressure: climate, hunger, migration”, the Global Meeting will coincide with International Mountain Day and the 15th anniversary of the Mountain Partnership. The Meeting aims to raise awareness of the need to place mountain ecosystems and peoples at the centre of international negotiations, policies and investments; and will focus on the challenges and the opportunities in sustainable mountain development. The Global Meeting will launch a Framework for Action to support concrete actions, put in place long-lasting processes and establish policies that strengthen the resilience of mountain peoples and environments. It also aims to ensure that sustainable mountain development is integrated into the 2030 Agenda and in the implementation of the Paris Agreement. Jointly organized by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, FAO and the Government of Italy, the Global Meeting will open on 11 December, the date of International Mountain Day with a political segment, and will be followed by two days of technical discussion. |
