Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development
The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) is a voluntary initiative supporting more than 75 nations committed to leveraging mining for sustainable development to ensure negative impacts are limited and financial benefits are shared. Members have access to a number of resources, including IGF’s Guidance for Governments, Mining Policy Framework and capacity-building and training opportunities.

20th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
Mining stakeholders discussed accelerating the production of critical minerals, the possible role of circularity in bridging the critical minerals supply gap, and the nexus of critical minerals and gender equality, among other issues.
19th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
Amid a global surge in demand for energy transition minerals, the meeting focused on the unprecedented opportunity to rethink how mining benefits are fairly shared and multiplied.
18th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
A concerted effort to reach the goals of the Paris Agreement would require a quadrupling of critical mineral requirements for clean energy technologies by 2040. The mining sector must reposition itself to supply these critical minerals, while ensuring they are extracted and traded in a responsible manner.
17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
The mining sector must reposition itself to supply minerals critical to the global energy transition while ensuring they are extracted and traded in a responsible manner.
16th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
The meeting discussed the impacts of COVID-19 on various aspects of mining, including employment, community resilience, gender equality, artisanal and small-scale mining, climate action, resource taxation, and technological innovation.
15th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
At the meeting, which was organized on the theme of “Mining in a Changing Climate," delegates discussed ways mining companies are starting to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from mining, as well as how they are learning to adapt to changes in climate and the environment, water scarcity, and increased disaster risk. They considered what mining will look like in the future as digital technology changes the way that work is done, the digital economy changes the way that resources may be taxed, and consumers increasingly seek out ethically sourced products.
14th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
Meeting around the theme “Modern Mining Law and Policy: Accountable, Equitable and Innovative Approaches,” approximately 400 participants from more than 80 countries shared experiences in the revision of mining codes and laws, public access to geological information, gender impacts of mining and policy responses to support progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and mine inspection systems. They considered the possibilities for “climate-smart” and “forest-smart” approaches to mining.
13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF)
At the meeting, participants dug into Artisanal and Small-scale Mining (ASM) issues, such as license areas and ASM zones; voluntary principles on security and human rights; voluntary sustainability initiatives for the mining sector; interactions between large-scale mining and ASM; development minerals and the SDGs; and women in ASM, among other issues.
