The resumed session of the thirty-seventh meeting of the Open-ended Working Group (OEWG 37) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer will be held from 15-16 July 2016 in Vienna, Austria. The thirty-eighth meeting of the OEWG and the third Extraordinary Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (ExMOP 3) will meet thereafter. They will be held from 18-21 July and 22-23 July 2016, respectively.

The resumed session of OEWG 37 will continue its discussions of the feasibility and ways of managing hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs), as agreed to under the Dubai pathway on HFCs, including addressing the challenges of and generating solutions to managing HFCs. These include the proposals to amend the Protocol that were discussed by the Twenty-Seventh Meeting of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol (MOP 27).

OEWG 38 is expected to consider, inter alia: the report by the Technology and Economic Assessment Panel (TEAP) on updated and new information on alternatives to ozone-depleting substances; the Dubai pathway on HFCs; the TEAP 2016 report; issues related to exemptions under Article 2 of the Protocol; and issues related to the phase-out of hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs). Other issues to be discussed include the availability of recovered, recycled or reclaimed halons and the terms of reference for the study on the 2018–2020 replenishment of the Multilateral Fund for the Implementation of the Montreal Protocol.

ExMOP 3 will consider the Dubai pathway on HFCs.
