Christina Fernandez is a Writer with Earth Negotiations Bulletin, as well as a PhD candidate at Tilburg University. She joined the ENB team in 2023. A Philippine national born in South Korea, she is based in the Netherlands where she researches on various environmental law issues, ocean governance, law of the sea, climate change, and marine biodiversity. Specifically, her research involves ways in which high seas marine protected areas and fisheries management can contribute to climate change mitigation and adaption.

Before entering academia, she worked as a qualified attorney in both public and private capacities, starting as an associate in PBR Law Offices and C&G Law, before becoming a Law Clerk in the Supreme Court of the Philippines. Christina holds a Master’s degree in Public International Law (cum laude, Honours Programme) with a specialization in Oceans, the Environment and Sustainability from Utrecht University, the Netherlands. She also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the Ateneo de Manila University, Philippines. She was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 2012.
