Moritz Petersmann is a doctoral researcher at the University of Eastern Finland’s Center for Climate Change, Energy and Environmental Law and joined the Earth Negotiations Bulletin as a Writer in 2022. He holds a BSc. in Environmental Sciences and a MSc. in Sustainability Sciences from Leuphana University, Germany.

His research focuses on international science-policy institutions, such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). He is particularly interested in their role and capacities for governing modern wicked problems. Besides his academic interest in governing sustainability transitions at multiple scales, Moritz contributed to a variety of projects which explore pathways for social-ecological transformations, including the Cradle to Cradle Congress, the Leuphana Conference Week for Sustainability and Responsibility and the Leuphana Utopia-Conference. Moritz has diverse work experience in different sectors, including business (social-ecological banking), civil society (advocating future-just policy and lawmaking) and academia.

Moritz is passionate about outdoor activities and enjoys exploring nature by hiking, skiing, sailing, and kayaking. Originally from Germany, he lives in Finland since 2019. You can connect with Moritz on LinkedIn.
