Nienke Beintema
Team Leader, Writer, and Editor
Nienke is a freelance science writer. She has an MSc. in Biology from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and has also studied environmental education at the University of Minnesota, U.S.A. She has been with ENB since 2002, focusing on biodiversity, marine, freshwater and forest issues.
In her home country, the Netherlands, Nienke writes for a national newspaper, the Dutch National Science Foundation, and several universities. She also writes about climate change adaptation and resilient cities for the Dutch government. She has written non-fiction books about the Arctic and Antarctic, science for children, and sea eagles.
In her spare time, Nienke enjoys reading, writing fiction, and pursuing outdoor activities with her adventurous husband and kids. Camping in the wild, canoeing and biking are among her favorites. After having lived in the Canadian wilderness for one and a half years, she hopes to move there again soon.
