Timothy Neff is a Writer with Earth Negotiations Bulletin and a Lecturer in Journalism at the University of Leicester. He is a US citizen with a research and teaching focus on journalism and democratic processes, including public engagement with climate change. He joined ENB in 2022, initially as a member of the team covering World Urban Forum 11.

Timothy was a journalist for 20 years in the US—both in print and online—before completing his M.A. in Media Studies at The New School and his Ph.D. in Media, Communication and Culture at New York University in 2019. He was a 2019-2020 fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society and a 2020-2021 postdoctoral research fellow at the Media, Inequality and Change Center at University of Pennsylvania’s Annenberg School for Communication. His research on journalism, democracy, public spheres, and climate change has been published in multiple journals: Environmental Communication; Journal of Communication; The International Journal of Press/Politics; International Journal of Communication; New Media & Society; Media, Culture & Society; Journalism Studies; and the Harvard Kennedy School Misinformation Review. He also is co-author of a forthcoming Oxford University Press book, How Media Ownership Matters.
