Post-2015 Development Agenda Consultation on Conflict, Violence and Disaster

13 March 2013 | Helsinki, Finland

The High-level Consultation on Conflict, Violence and Disaster and the Post-2015 Development Agenda, taking place on 13 March 2013 in Helsinki, Finland, will conclude a series of consultations on the interrelationships between conflict, violence, disaster, fragility and sustainable development. Leaders of civil society organizations, the private sector, governments, intergovernmental organizations, and relevant UN agencies will deliberate on a synthesis report of four sub-thematic consultations in order to forge consensus on a forward-looking agenda on conflict and fragility.

The meeting is expected to come up with a set of strategic options for accounting for peace, security, violence reduction and fragility, including suggestions for a narrative, goals and targets on the Post-2015 Development Agenda. Organizers also aim to reach agreement on concrete measures that can be taken by participants and development partners in the lead-up to 2015 to promote the conflict, violence and disaster agenda.

This Consultation is one of 11 global thematic consultations initiated by the United Nations following the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD or Rio+20). The Consultation was launched on 22 October 2012 on the margins of the 5th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, and is co-convened by the Government of Finland, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
