The Conference “Jump-starting the SDGs in Germany: Natural Resources and Sustainable Consumption and Production” will meet from 2-4 May 2016 at Andel’s Hotel, in Berlin, Germany. After the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development by UN countries in 2015, the meeting will address the challenges of implementing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Germany. Its thematic focus will be on natural resources and sustainable consumption and production patterns, taking into consideration Germany’s role as a major consumer of natural resources in a globalized world. The meeting aims at assessing the potential role of partnerships in supporting effective implementation of relevant SDGs. The Conference brings together government, science, civil society and business representatives from different backgrounds to discuss, among other issues: efficient resource use, food security and nutrition, bioenergy, land use and the rural-urban continuum. The meeting is convened by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL), the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies (IASS), and the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI), the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI), Germanwatch and the World Centre for Sustainable Development (RIO+Centre) as co-hosts. |
