The third annual Multi-stakeholder Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for the Sustainable Development Goals (STI Forum) will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York on 5-6 June 2018 under the theme “Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies.”

As part of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism mandated by the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, the annual STI Forum is expected to "provide a venue for facilitating interaction, matchmaking and the establishment of networks between relevant stakeholders and multi-stakeholder partnerships in order to identify and examine technology needs and gaps, including with regard to scientific cooperation, innovation and capacity-building, and also in order to help facilitate development, transfer and dissemination of relevant technologies for the sustainable development goals."

The 2018 STI Forum will include panels on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that are on the agenda for the 2018 meeting of the High-Level Political Forum for Sustainable Development in July:

  • STI for sustainable management of water and sanitation for all (SDG 6)
  • STI for access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all (SDG 7)
  • STI for inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable cities and human settlements (SDG 11)
  • STI for sustainable consumption and production patterns (SDG 12)
  • STI for sustainable terrestrial ecosystems (SDG 15)

There will also be panels on:

  • Impact of rapid technological change on the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Interactive Dialogue with the 10 Member Group to support the Technology Facilitation Mechanism
  • National STI roadmaps for the SDGs and capacity building
  • Realizing the full potential of local and indigenous knowledge, and homegrown innovations for the achievement of the SDGs
  • Supporting the implementation of the Technology Facilitation Mechanism – the way forward for joint action
