The “Climate Action for Zero Hunger” side event took place on Tuesday, 14 November 2017 during the Fiji / Bonn Climate Change Conference (COP23). It was organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA); Partnership on Sustainable Low Carbon Transport (SLOCAT); Paris Process on Mobility and Climate (PPMC); World Bank; Centre for International Forest Research (CIFOR); United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); World Wildlife Fund (WWF); International Union for Conservation for Nature (IUCN); Research for Community Access Partnership (ReCAP); Global Resilience Partnership (GRP); and UN Environment.
Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2) aims to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture. A series of high-level roundtables focused on the idea that hunger, poverty and climate change must be tackled together. The roundtables covered specific climate-related threats; extreme and urgent challenges for Small Island Developing States (SIDS); integrated landscapes, particularly regarding forests and agriculture; and climate-resilient and low-emission food systems.
Produced by Teya Penniman and filmed/edited by Felipe Ruiz.
