AUSTRIA:
Amb. Ernst Sucharipa stated that during this
session of the General Assembly, the decisions of the CSD to create
ad hoc working groups on finance and technology questions will have
to be given their budgetary grounding. Great care should be taken
to avoid a restating of generalities or a partial re-negotiation of
Agenda 21 and to ensure that these ad hoc groups really add value
to the deliberations and recommendations of the CSD. He announced
that the Austrian Government will host a national preparatory
meeting on Cluster D (Structures of Decision Making). From 14-16
April 1994, Austria will organize a symposium on "Sustainable
Development and International Law." Regarding the Climate Change
INC, Austria hopes that governments will accept Germany's offer to
host the first Conference of Parties from 28 March - 7 April 1995,
as well as the dates proposed for another three meetings of the
INC. As far as the preparatory process for the Conference on the
Sustainable Development of Small Island Developing States is
concerned, further work must be done on Chapter XV,
"Implementation, Monitoring and Review" and the Barbados
Declaration. Austria supports the proposal for a resumed session of
the PrepCom. Austria also urged the UN Secretariat to use recycled
paper for the production of its reports.
