ECUADOR:

Marjorie Ulloa noted the positive results obtained during the first session of the Conference on Straddling Fish Stocks and Highly Migratory Fish Stocks. She hopes that the positive atmosphere will be maintained in future sessions and that the Conference will clearly establish the rights and obligations of States. The existence of universal norms will strengthen the action of regional and subregional organizations on these issues. With regard to human settlements, she said that the general objective is to improve the quality of life and this should be based on technological cooperation between public and private sectors. She urged governments to work together to prepare for Habitat II.
