The representative from Poland said that the results of UNCED have provided the international community with a framework and now we have to ensure that action follows. The CSD needs to ensure better integration of environment and development concerns. Poland supports a Nordic proposal made at ECOSOC to devote the CSD's high level segment to the interrelationship between environment and economy. Unsustainable lifestyles, strengthening coordination among relevant UN agencies, and trade and the environment deserve more attention. The basic challenge is to achieve greater country and regional cooperation. He stressed the importance of the expert meetings as there has been little progress in implementing the Rio commitments due to lack of adequate financing.
