TURKEY:
The representative from Turkey said that the
establishment of the CSD is a major step forward and the GEF will
be a primary means of discharging obligations. Turkey is pleased
with the outcome of the first two sessions of the INCD and has
given a high priority to combatting desertification and drought.
Turkey is confident that the Convention will be adopted by June
1994. Turkey is also committed to Habitat II, which it will host.
Preparations are underway in Istanbul for the 1996 Conference. He
stressed the importance of dealing with the problems caused by the
trend of urban agglomeration.
