TUNISIA:

Tunisia, on behalf of Algeria, Libya, Mauritania and Morocco, stressed the importance of birth control in the Maghreb region, now that the mortality rate is lowered. Tunisia also mentioned the main points raised at the Conference on Population and Development in the Maghreb Countries, held in July in Tunis. These include the importance of: population questions in sustainable development; international migration; the role of women in development; the right to family planning; and priority to maternal and infant health. With regard to the annotated outline, the means of implementation section should contain practical proposals relating to Part II of the document (Choices and Responsibilities). He also suggested: strengthening the chapter on technology transfer and recommending protection of the rights of ‚migr‚s as well as the rights of victims of barbaric practices, like in Bosnia.
