TUNISIA:
Tunisia, on behalf of Algeria, Libya, Mauritania
and Morocco, stressed the importance of birth control in the
Maghreb region, now that the mortality rate is lowered. Tunisia
also mentioned the main points raised at the Conference on
Population and Development in the Maghreb Countries, held in July
in Tunis. These include the importance of: population questions
in sustainable development; international migration; the role of
women in development; the right to family planning; and priority
to maternal and infant health. With regard to the annotated
outline, the means of implementation section should contain
practical proposals relating to Part II of the document (Choices
and Responsibilities). He also suggested: strengthening the
chapter on technology transfer and recommending protection of the
rights of migrs as well as the rights of victims of barbaric
practices, like in Bosnia.
