INFORMAL PLENARY DISCUSSIONS ON CORE ISSUES

During the second week of the PrepCom, delegates met in informal sessions to discuss the core issues to be addressed by the Summit in more detail. These discussions were based on Working Paper No. 1, "Elements for possible inclusion in the draft declaration and plan of action," which had been prepared by the WSSD Secretariat before this session of the PrepCom began. Paragraph 17 of this working paper said that the programme of action should build on national experiences in social development, including innovative and successful policies, and could include the following areas: enabling economic environment; social integration; alleviation and reduction of poverty; and the expansion of productive employment. The PrepCom devoted two days of informal discussion to these topics.
