IN THE CORRIDORS

PrepCom Chair Juan Somav¡a continued his consultations on the Declaration in the corridors on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Secretariat distributed a paper on elements for a draft Declaration mentioned during the debate last week. The list of common elements includes: greater international cooperation; strengthening the moral, ethical and spiritual basis for social progress; the components and objectives of social development; the priorities and resources for social progress and development in the coming decades; and support from the UN system. It will be interesting to see how a "concise" Declaration with "specific commitments" will result from this list and Somav¡a's consultations.
