SECRETARIAT ACTIVITIES:
On many occasions, the Chair and the
Secretariat highlighted the fact that the process was still at an
early stage and that, consequently, a lot of work must be carried
out during the intersessional period. The Secretariat has now two
texts in which the delegates have indicated what points they want
to see highlighted. These take the form of recommendations that
need to be taken into account while the Draft Plan of Action and
national level Activities are developed. In addition, the
Secretariat needs to prepare a list of the indicators that will be
taken into account in the National Plans. It is expected that a
first series of indicators will be mandatory and apply to all
States in the preparation of their National Reports, while the
adoption of other indicators will be recommended, but will not be
binding. The Secretariat should make these indicators available to
States before June 1994. The Secretariat will also draft the Global
Plan of Action and the Declaration of Principles on the basis of
the recommendations contained in the reports of the two Committees.
