 IPCC Working Group III (WGIII) opened today in Berlin, Germany. During a welcoming ceremony, statements were made by: IPCC Chair Rajendra Pachauri, Jochen Flasbarth, State Secretary, German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, Georg Schütte, State Secretary, German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Deon Terblandche, WMO, and Jacqueline McGlade, UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
Following a brief meeting of the IPCC, WGIII began a line-by-line discussion of the draft Summary for Policymakers (SPM) of the WGIII contribution to the IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5), namely Climate Change 2014: Mitigation of Climate Change.
Participants attended an evening reception, hosted by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety, and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. The reception was held at the Rotes Rathaus (Red Town Hall).
