The XIII World Forestry Congress, “Forests in Development: A Vital Balance,” co-organized by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of Argentina, opened on Sunday 17 October in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Over 4500 participants from international organizations, governments, academia, the private sector and civil society, representing 160 nations, came together to discuss forest issues in two plenaries, eight thematic sessions, two poster sessions, and numerous side events.
