POPRC participants rolled up their sleeves to finalize work before Friday's deadline to adopt decisions.
Two chemicals occupied much of the day's schedule. Discussions focused on the range of chemicals included in the nomination for "medium-chain” chlorinated paraffins (those with carbon chain lengths in the range C14–17 and chlorination levels at or exceeding 45% chlorine by weight). The conversation included whether the information in the nomination could be used to conclude whether all substances in the chain meet the Annex D criteria, because they vary by both the carbon chain length and the chlorination level. Participants worked in the contact group, then finalized their work in the evening.
For UV-328, a stabilizer used in plastics and other products, discussions were more difficult. Participants debated the significance of possible long-range transport via plastics at length. The contact group cleaned up most of the document, but outstanding issues remained for the evening's members-only drafting group to resolve.
A drafting group met to discuss the decision and draft risk profile for Dechlorane Plus (a flame retardant), as well as a proposal to list chlorpyrifos (a pesticide).
