CGRFA 16 The sixteenth session of the FAO Commission on Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (CGRFA 16) will be held from 30 January to 3 February 2017, at the FAO Headquarters, in Rome, Italy.

The session will be preceded by a special event on Saturday, 28 January on The Contribution of Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture to Resilience as well as regional consultations on Sunday 29 January.

The CGRFA is expected to consider a series of cross-sectoral matters, including: the preparation of the Report on the State of the World’s Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture; the role of genetic resources for food security; access and benefit-sharing for genetic resources for food and agriculture; review of the Programme of Work on Climate Change and Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture; and review of the implementation of targets and indicators for genetic resources for food and agriculture. The Commission is also expected to consider: aquatic genetic resources, including the Report on the State of the World’s Aquatic Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture; animal genetic resources, including a review of the Global Plan of Action on Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture; plant genetic resources, including implementation of the Second Global Plan of Action for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, and preparation of the Third Report on the State of the World’s Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture; forest genetic resources, including implementation of the Global Plan of Action for the Conservation, Sustainable Use and Development of Forest Genetic Resources; and micro-organisms and invertebrates. The Commission will also review the implementation of its Multi-year Programme of Work (MYPoW), cooperation with other international instruments and organizations, and administrative matters.

IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB Meeting Coverage, provided digital coverage and a summary report of the Special Event: The Contribution of Biodiversity for Food and Agriculture to Resilience. In addition, IISD Reporting Services produced daily reports, daily digital coverage, and a summary and analysis report from CGRFA 16.
