The Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG) on Connecting Smallholders to Markets was established following a request by the 42nd Plenary Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 42) in October 2015. CFS 42 called for the outcomes of the HLF, including the good practices and lessons presented in the background document and during the discussion, be further analyzed with a view to preparing a set of draft policy recommendations and practices.

On 28 April 2016, the OEWG convened an informal consultation to review the Zero Draft prepared by a CFS technical team, containing potential recommendations on overcoming barriers and maximizing opportunities for smallholders. The OEWG Chair will circulate an updated version of the text for finalization during a follow up meeting on 8-9 June 2016, prior to its submission to CFS 43 in October 2016 for adoption.

IISD Reporting Services, through its ENB+ Meeting Coverage, has provided a briefing note of the April session and a summary report of the June session. Our April briefing note is available in HTML or PDF format. Our June summary report is available in HTML or PDF format.
