A view of the room during the opening session of the 55th GEF Council Meeting
Representatives of governments, international organizations, and civil society organizations (CSOs) will come together for the 56th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council to develop, adopt and evaluate the operational policies and programs for GEF-financed activities.
The Council, which meets twice a year and is the GEF’s main governing body, comprising 32 Members appointed by constituencies of GEF member countries, will discuss, among other issues:
- Policy on Monitoring;
- GEF Business Plan and Corporate Budget for FY20;
- Status of Agencies’ Compliance with Minimum Requirements on Anti-money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism;
- The GEF Evaluation Policy;
- GEF-7 Non-Grant Instrument Program;
- Work Program; and
- Relations with the Conventions and Other International Institutions.
In addition, the Council will be informed about possible non-compliance with Environmental and Social Safeguards and hear, among other reports, the report of the Chair of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Panel (STAP) and the report on the Working Group on the GEF Partnership.
The 56th meeting of the GEF Council will take place from 11-13 June 2019, in Washington, DC.
Delegates will also convene as the 26th meeting of the Council for the Least Developed Countries Fund and the Special Climate Change Fund (LDCF/SCCF) on 13 June 2019 to hear the LDCF/SCCF progress report and to be updated on programmatic, budgetary and other issues.
The Council meeting will be preceded by a consultation with CSOs on Monday, 10 June 2019.
