The dais during ARFSD 4
The fifth session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development (ARFSD 5) will be held from 16-18 April 2019, in Marrakech, Morocco, under the theme “empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality.”
The Forum is expected to complete an in-depth review of selected Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs), as well as the corresponding goals of the Agenda 2063, namely: SDG 4 (quality education); SDG 8 (decent work and economic growth); SDG 10 (reduced inequalities); SDG 13 (climate action); SDG 16 (peace, justice and strong institutions); and SDG 17 (partnerships for the Goals).
The outcomes of the meeting will feed into: the July 2019 session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) under the auspices of ECOSOC, focusing on the same theme and SDGs; and the September 2019 SDG Summit, which is the HLPF under the auspices of the UN General Assembly. It is expected that the outputs will reflect Africa’s specific challenges in the implementation of the SDGs, gaps and levers of change to accelerate implementation.
