GENERAL ASSEMBLY:
The Secretary-General of ICPD is
expected to transmit a package to the 48th session of the
General Assembly that will include the ECOSOC decisions, the
annotated outline of the draft plan of action, and her own
progress report that will describe Secretariat activities to
date. Delegations will be given the opportunity to respond to
the annotated outline and to provide the Secretariat with
specific input for the draft plan of action. It is unlikely
that any of these discussions will be carried out in the
Plenary of the General Assembly. Rather, it is expected that
substantive discussions will be carried out in large part in
the Second Committee. There is some question as to whether a
special working group of the Second Committee will be formed
to address the annotated outline and provide additional input
to the ICPD Secretariat.
