VII. ENERGY RESOURCES:

In view of SIDS dependency on energy imports, energy conservation and the development of renewable sources of energy need to be encouraged. This may be achieved through strengthening research capability in the development of alternative energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal, hydroelectric, ocean thermal energy conversion, wave and biomass. SIDS need to be assisted in developing national capacity to effectively plan, manage, and monitor their energy sectors. Some of the recommendations on transfer of technology and the use of double-hulled tankers were not acceptable to all and, thus, remained in brackets.
