Costa Rica, on behalf of the G-77 and China: the COP should assert its authority over the GEF
Delegations debated agricultural biodiversity and the Convention's financial mechanism Tuesday, beginning the substantive debates of COP-3. Below are some of the delegations who spoke and other images from the second day's work in Buenos Aires.
Agricultural biodiversity: Ecuador (above left) said agroindustry should be a point of reference for financing agrobiodiversity programs. Venezuela (above right) called for funds to study adverse impacts on savannah ecosystems. Austrian delegate Manfred Schneider (right) was selected to chair COP-3's first working group.
Outside the meeting hall, an open air meeting area (left) is becoming a center of consultations, while a group of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) (right) prepare for upcoming debates.
