The Sixth Carbon Sequestration Leadership Forum (CSLF) Ministerial Meeting will take place from 1-5 November 2015 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Organized by the Saudi Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the CSLF Secretariat, the Meeting will be attended by Ministers and Senior Officials holding portfolios related to the environment, energy and sustainable development from 22 CSLF Member Countries.

The CSLF is a Ministerial-level international initiative that is focused on the development of cost-effective technologies for the separation and capture of carbon dioxide (CO2) for its transport, utilization and long-term safe storage. Its mission is to facilitate the development and deployment of such technologies via collaborative efforts that address key technical, economic, and environmental obstacles. Ministerial Meetings are the CSLF’s highest decision-making body and are held as needed to provide policy and technical direction for the organization.

The 6th CSLF Ministerial Meeting will include meetings of the Policy and Technical Groups of the CSLF from 1-3 November. On 4 November, a Ministerial Conference will take place which will include roundtable and discussion sessions on: steps to complete and move beyond the first wave of CCS demos; national and international policies to accelerate the deployment of CCS; and key actions needed for CCS at the Paris Climate Change Conference taking place in November 2015, to ensure a clean energy future.

The Ministerial Meeting will round up with a tour organized by Saudi Aramco on 5 November in Dhahran, which will include a demonstration, virtual broadcast, and a site visit to Saudi Aramco facilities in Dhahran. The purpose of this tour is to: showcase pilot demonstration plants for CO2 capture, enhanced oil recovery (EOR) and utilization in the chemical industry; demonstrate research and innovation on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS); and show core oil and gas capabilities for sustainable delivery of affordable energy to the world.
