The COP 22 Low-Emissions Solutions Conference will take place from 14-16 November 2016 in Marrakech, Morocco. Taking place during the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC COP 22), the Solutions Conference aims to assist countries in the technical preparations of their Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Low-Emission Development Strategy (LEDS). It will bring together technical experts, scientists and engineers, and sectors from business, academia, and civil society, to share knowledge, exchange information, identify bottlenecks, discuss best practices, and prioritize future research. The primary objective of the Conference is to support a collaborative brainstorming and solutions-oriented mode to implementing the Paris Agreement, by: strengthening UNFCCC parties’ technical capacity to design and implement long-term low greenhouse-gas emissions development strategies as called for in the Paris Agreement; charting key technology pathways for decarbonized energy systems, based on public-private partnerships; creating an intensive global dialogue among engineers and technology specialists on innovative solutions for a low-emissions future; and enhancing global exchange and partnerships for technology solutions between governments, businesses, academia, and civil society organizations. The Conference will focus on the following: design of NDCS and LEDs; cities and energy efficiency in buildings; low-emissions transport; low-emissions power generation and distribution; and public policies and regulations needed to support deep decarbonization of energy systems. The Solutions Conference is co-organized by the Government of Morocco, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), the World Business Council on Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI). |
