Congressman Barton on prospects for US Senate ratification of the Kyoto Protocol

Al Gore at a press conference. The US Vice-President reiterates the US proposal for 30% cuts in emissions GHG emissions by 2010 and tells the press that he has left it to the US negotiators to interpret the flexibility he announced at the COP Plenary. Her Excellency Dr Masoumeh Ebtekar, Vice-President and Director of the Department of Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran states Iran's position of commitment to a protocol and summons the spirit of Rio.
       
Her Excellency Ms Maria Julia Alsogaray, Secretary for Natural Resources and Human Environment of Argentina calls for developing countries to take up voluntary but binding commitments under the Protocol FCCC Executive Secretrary, Michael Zammit-Cutajar (centre), reminded delegates that Zen thinking consisted of breaking mental boundaries imposed by established ways of looking at the world - an attitude which should be sought during the creation of the Kyoto Protocol.
       
Her Excellency Ms Dominque Voynet, France's Minister of Physical Planning and the Environment called on the European Union to reaffirm its stance and for all to recognise the importance of a more-than-narrow-minded approach to the issue.
