DIREC 2010
Highlights for Wednesday, 27 October 2010

On Wednesday, 27 October 2010, the Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC) convened in New Delhi, India. Over 9000 participants from governments, civil society, academia and the private sector met in the main conference hall, parallel workshops and attended an exposition with nearly 550 exhibitors.

During the morning, participants met in plenary to discuss the journey from Johannesburg to Delhi and the DIREC theme "up-scaling and mainstreaming renewables for energy security, climate change and economic development," among others.

In the afternoon, three parallel roundtables met, composed of ministers, Multistakeholders and CEOs, followed by a joint forum bringing together lessons from the three roundtables.

AFTERNOON PARALLEL SESSIONS

CEO Roundtable
The CEO roundtable, moderated by Steve Sawyer, Secretary-General, Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), met in the afternoon to discuss the role of the private sector in the field of renewable energy. Participants included representatives from the wind and solar energy sectors.

Ministerial Discussion
Participants at the Ministerial Discussion, moderated by Prannoy Roy, Chairman, NDTV, focused on challenges to global action on energy, options for quick solution and whether technology can enable renewables to dominate the energy industry.

Multistakeholder Discussion
Participants at the Multistakeholder Discussion, moderated by David Hales, President, College of the Atlantic, called for a renewable revolution and said that international political discussions need to begin addressing unsustainable production and consumption.

Joint Ministerial - Multistakeholder - CEO 'Straight Talk'
The day came to a close with the gathering together of the parallel session moderators to discuss and summarize their respective sessions.
