Land degradation is not just an environmental problem. Land degradation increases risks to human health and the spread of new diseases. It drives forced migration and enflames conflicts over scarce resources. It is a leading contributor to climate change, biodiversity loss, poverty, and food insecurity. In other words, land degradation is a core challenge of sustainable development.
