Summary
On Wednesday 26 April, participants convened for the first day of the Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) Working Group.
In the morning participants adopted the agenda, heard the report from the Science-Policy dialogue held the day before (for ENB coverage click here), heard a presentation from the Secretariat summarizing CCAC’s five years of existence, and discussed, among other: policy action to advance short-lived climate pollutant (SLCP) reductions; increasing policy actions to reduce black carbon and other SLCPs; and leveraging finance at scale. On policy action to advance SLCP reductions, participants emphasized issues including: metrics; pilot testing; inventories; relationship to SDGs, NDCs, and other processes such as the Arctic Council and LRTAP; capacity building and technical capacity; and specific action at the national, regional and sector levels.
In the afternoon, participants zoomed-in on three CCAC initiatives with a view of informing the 2017 High Level Assembly agenda. The initiatives included: agriculture, with presentations from Bangladesh, Uruguay FAO and ICCI; municipal solid waste, with presentations from Kenya, Philippines, C40 Cities Leadership Group, the city of Vina del Mar and ISWA; and cities and subnational entities, with presentations from WHO, ICCT, Mario Molina Center, and City of Talca, Chile.
In the evening, participants attended the launch of the Chile Breathe Life and a cocktail reception.
