Summary
The 21st meeting of the Climate & Clean Air Coalition to Reduce Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (CCAC) Working Group continued on Tuesday, 26 September 2017, in Paris, France. In the morning, participants heard reports from the breakout groups that had taken place on Monday, 25 September, on country perspectives and conclusions on next steps, as well as on support for the voluntary actions and the draft High Level Assembly (HLA) Bonn Communiqué.
They then engaged in a session on leveraging financing at scale, which was held in the morning and afternoon. This session included a panel on financing and presentation of case studies by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), Climate-KIC, the Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD), the International Council on Clean Transportation (ICCT) and Mexico.
The afternoon continued with a discussion of the proposed CCAC financing strategy that builds on the current five-year Strategic Plan of the Coalition. Participants approved the financing strategy in principle. They then engaged in a session to discuss the upcoming HLA, which is scheduled to take place in November 2017, during UNFCCC COP23. Participants approved the draft HLA agenda with some minor changes. A revised draft HLA Communiqué was circulated based on comments formulated the previous day.
The last session of the day was dedicated to housekeeping and included various updates from the CCAC Secretariat, the Household Energy and Bricks Initiatives, and the Demonstrating Impact Task Force. Participants also heard presentations on the upcoming UN Environment Assembly and the Marrakech Partnership for Global Climate Action, and adopted the Secretariat budget for 2018. The next Working Group meeting will convene in April 2018 in Toronto, Canada. The meeting was closed by the CCAC Working Group Co-Chair at 6:14 pm.
